In the tradition of keeping up with the changing times, two iconic Warner Bros. characters will sport different personas in their new reiteration.
These are involving characters Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam.
Both characters are going to sport different looks in the “Looney Tunes Cartoons” that launched on the new streaming service HBO Max, said CNN.
Though their outfits remain the same, both will no longer be carrying guns.
The cartoons will still have plenty of sticks of Acme dynamite and cartoon violence, but Fudd will no longer carry his oversized hunting rifle and Sam will not bring his pistols.
Peter Browngardt, executive producer and showrunner, said in an interview with the New York Times, “We’re not doing guns. But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered in.”
One of its most famous characters is Bugs Bunny, who popularized the catchphrase: “What’s up, doc?”
While ‘Looney Tunes’ has been brought back repeatedly over the years, it has almost always been with an eye toward modernizing the franchise, said the New York Times.
No mention is made of whether or not that the guns being removed was a response to gun violence and school shootings in the US, CNN noted.
Warner Bros. Animation and CNN’s parent company is WarnerMedia.
