President Donald Trump cannot help himself but take another opportunity to take a swipe against controversial NFL player Colin Kaepernick.
Trump when asked by a reporter if Kaepernick deserves another shot, Trump said, “If he deserves it, he should. If he has the playing ability. His playing wasn’t up to snuff.”
“The answer is absolutely I would, as far as kneeling, I would love to see him get another shot but obviously he has to be able to play well,” he continued.
“If he can’t play well, I think that would be very unfair,” he added.
Trump had long opposed athletes kneeling during the National Anthem and referred to them as “sons of bitches”, said a CNN report.
The President was reacting to the statement of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Goodell said he support and encourage a team interested in signing Kaepernick.
He was the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback.
Kaepernic has been a free agent for three years after he began kneeling during the National Anthem to protest police brutality.
This was years before George Floyd was killed,.
His death galvanized many across the nation to fight against social injustice and systemic racism.
On a related development, English Premier League’s players in both Wednesday’s games took a knee.
This is their powerful and symbolic show of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement.
This gesture is impactful as the eye of the world is on them as they had been gone for 100 days, said a CNN report.
The two featured games that night were between Manchester City and Arsenal, and Aston Villa against Sheffield United.
Also involved in the kneeling were the refereeing officials and coaching members of staff of the four teams.
All the players wore shirts with their names replaced by the words “Black Lives Matter.”
This is their tribute to the movement which has grown in prominence since Floyd’s death.
