Looking for a new business idea? Look out for Elon Musk’s next joke.
From selling rockets and cars to tequila, it seems no one’s stopping Tesla and SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, from selling whatever product he wants.
On Tuesday, Tesla launched its own tequila in the market, which people can buy for $250 per bottle.
Buyers can get their own Tesla Tequila inside a lighting shaped bottle.
According to its website, the tequila was “aged for 15 months in French oak barrels” and is only available in select US states.
Moreover, according to reports, an individual is limited to only 2 bottles per order.
It Started with a Joke
The company dabbling into the tequila business is actually a product of Musk’s 2018 April Fool’s Day joke.
At that time, Musk wrote of having “teslaquilla” and passing out because of it.
In 2018, Musk tweeted “Tesla Goes Bankrupt” and wrote a made-up news report in his tweet.
According to his 2018 tweet, despite Tesla’s efforts to “raise money,” which includes a “last-ditch mass sale of Easter Eggs,” Tesla still lost its money.
As part of his tweet, Musk also included a picture of himself passed out, and with a cardboard over him showing the word, “Bankwupt!”
His tweet said Musk was found “passed out against” a car, a Tesla Model 3.
He was also surrounded by “Teslaquilla” bottles, he wrote.
One Twitter user at that time, Taylor Harris, a content creator at YouTube, commented on Musk’s original tweet to make it happen.
Musk then replied, “as you wish.”
Fast forward to 2020, and we now have the Tesla Tequila.
He Also Made Money From a Past Joke Against Tesla
It’s not the first time the Tesla and SpaceX founder capitalized on his own or other people’s joke against him or his companies.
In fact, in July, Musk taunted his critics by selling shorts.
A jab against people criticizing Tesla and betting it will eventually drop the price of its stock.
