A court in Israel, on Sunday, finally concluded the long-running case against the celebrity supermodel, Bar Refaeli, and her mother and manager, Tzipi Refaeli for evading taxes on income of around $7.2 million between the years 2009 and 2012, per CNN report.
Community Service and Jail Time
The court sentenced the supermodel who previously dated Leonardo DiCaprio to nine-month community service.
The national celebrity was assigned to a center for physically disabled people, five-day per week service, the Jerusalem Post reported.
On the other hand, 65-year-old Tzipi Refaeli was given 16 months in jail.
Bar’s mother will begin her jail term on September 21.
Heavy Fines and Interests
The court ordered the Refaeli tandem, as part of a plea deal, to couch up $730,000 (2.5 million Shekels), according to CNN.
The mother and daughter will also have to pay up an accumulated amount of $1.4 million in fines and the back taxes, on a report by Insider.
Defense Attorney’s and Prosecutor’s Arguments
Refaeli’s lawyers disputed that Bar was living in the U.S. from 2009 to 2012 and was residing in DiCaprio’s home.
Hence, the supermodel was not under the obligation to pay Israeli income taxes from 2009 to 2012 according to Insider.
However, prosecutors said she had been living in luxury homes in Israel.
Tzipi signed leases under the names of relatives to conceal Bar’s actual residency status, per The Times of Israel report.
Moreover, the mother refrained from declaring her income as an agent.
35-year-old Bar expressed regret for her actions during the hearing, CNN reported.
She assured that after the trial “I won’t be seen in a courtroom again,” Bar said.
“I regret” my misconduct and want to emphasize that “I was just over 20 years old” when the “offenses” were committed.
I am “running my business differently” now, she added.
