Poway City Council approved the SOS (Sharing Outdoor Spaces) to temporarily relax restrictions at city parks for houses of worship.
According a CBS8 report, this will also apply to fitness-oriented businesses.
Poway Mayor Steve Vaus initiated the proposal.
This will lift provisions preventing parks for commercial use.
However, it is only last until the state restrictions on indoor businesses are lifted.
This current approval came as a timely option as a closure of indoor operations takes effect on San Diego County.
Also, the county reported the COVID-19 cases now total nearing the 21,000 marks.
County health officials said there are 539 new COVID-19 cases and 14 additional deaths on Tuesday.
According to the report, this raised the region’s totals to 20,887 cases and 436 deaths.
Of the 7,246 tests reported Tuesday, 7% returned positive.
This is slightly above the county’s rolling 14-day positive test average of 6.2%.
Loophole For Two
On Tuesday at midnight, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s closure order will take effect, except for two due to a loophole.
Since the restrictions only applied to indoor operations, Poway’s timely option gives the house of worship and gyms a break.
However, the order still applies to all indoor operations ceased in gyms, houses of worship, non-critical office businesses.
This includes hair salons and barber shops, indoor malls and personal care services, such as massage businesses and tattoo parlors.
California Is Not Looking Good
California still seeing record numbers, hence, it is not looking good.
There are a total of 6,786 COVID-19 positive hospital patients and 1,907 patients in the ICU in California, said CNN.
To date, the state also announced 11,126 new cases, the second most it has had.
The report said, the largest number of cases is in Los Angeles County.
It is where the county’s public health director warned another stay-at-home order might be possible.
Dr. Barbara Ferrer expressed her concerns:
“We can’t take anything off the table — there’s absolutely no certainty of what exactly is going to happen next.”
