Who will you cast to portray a really eccentric character?
Answer: an equally eccentric actor, of course.
With the success of the hit Netflix docuseries “Tiger King,” CBS said they are tapping actor Nicolas Cage to play as Joe Exotic in a limited series that they are currently developing.
To sweeten the deal, Cage would also be set as an executive producer on the project through his company, Saturn Films, said CNN.
The show will be based on a Texas Monthly article, “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad.
CNN also added that the logline for the series reads: “The story centers around Joe Shreibvogel, an eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park — even at the risk of losing his sanity.
The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.”
Joseph Maldonado-Passage (né Shreibvogel) is currently in prison. He was sentenced to 22 years for his role in a murder-for-hire plot and killing tigers.
Joe Exotic was known for his eccentricity.
He is an aspiring country singer; ran for president in 2016; and, had four husbands.
While Cage is equally bizarre.
He accidentally bought a stolen dinosaur skull; he purchased a haunted mansion, and he tripped out on a mushroom with no less than his cat.
