Former Glee star Naya Rivera was reported missing on Wednesday, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
On Wednesday, Rivera and her son went to Lake Piru in California.
Captain Eric Buschow of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said that the situation might be a case of drowning.
“This is a big reservoir, it’s deep,” said Buschow during a press conference.
“These things happen, we don’t know all the circumstances.”
A search and rescue team consisting of divers and an aerial unit were mobilized after the event was reported.
However, the Sheriff’s Office announced that they will suspend the search for the actress for now.
They will resume on Thursday morning.
The Information Released so Far
On Wednesday afternoon, a woman went to the lake with her child and rented a boat, said, Buschow.
Three hours later, another boater saw the boat floating adrift with a child inside, sleeping.
The boater then called the rangers to look for the woman, later revealed as Rivera.
According to the child, he had been swimming with his mom and then went back to the boat.
However, his mom did not come back.
No one saw the mother and child in the water, added Buschow.
Buschow also confirmed that there are two life vests on the boat.
An adult life vest was seen on the boat and the child was wearing another one when he was found.
Captain Buschow also said during the press conference that they are not sure if the boat was anchored or not.
The Captain also shared that there was not much detail on the investigation yet.
Social Media Reaction
The decision of the Ventura Sheriff’s Office to halt the search for Rivera earned a lot of backlash from people.
Also, a petition was launched by the actress’s supporters to urge the county to continue searching.
Heather Morris, Rivera’s friend, and also former Glee actress posted on her Instagram asking people to pray for Naya’s safety.
“We need all the prayers we can get to bring our Naya back home to us,” Morris said in her post.
“We need your love and light.”
