Hannibal actor, Mads Mikkelsen, recently got the villain role of Gellert Grindelwald from the Harry Potter prequel, the Fantastic Beasts series. Pirates of the Caribbean star, Johnny Depp, resigned from the role after losing a libel case against the British tabloid, the Sun.

Mikkelsen shared they are still working out how he would go about the Grindelwald role, per Entertainment Weekly.

Although Mikkelsen playing the role would already be a difference, the Rogue One actor quipped.

Mikkelsen added, there needs to be a connection between what Depp did and what he will do as Grindelwald. There needs to be a few links to ensure there’s no detachment from the past installments of the series.

However, he also has to make the character his own.

EW also asked Mikkelsen about his reaction when he landed the role.

The job is really “interesting and nice,” he said. However, it was also a “shocker” because of the sad circumstances that happened before he got the role.

The Sun, in one of its past articles, called Depp a wife-beater after his ex-wife, Amber Heard, accused him of domestic abuse.

Last month, the Royal Courts of Justice in London delivered its verdict saying the Sun’s article holds substantial truth to it.

Fantastic Beasts Cast Speaks Out About Depp

Some of the casts of the Fantastic Beasts series have spoken up after Depp’s departure from the film.

One of the first ones to do so was Jude Law, who played the young Albus Dumbledore, the one wizard who defeated Grindelwald in a duel.

According to Law, Depp’s departure from the film was “unusual” since Depp already finished one day of filming for the role.

He also added that during these kinds of situations, “you defer to the studio.”

A few days ago, another Fantastic Beasts actor, Dan Fogler, shared the situation was both delicate and complicated, per We Got This Covered.

Fogler plays the muggle, Jacob Kowalski, in the series.

“There’s too many moving parts,” said the actor, and any kind of decision would “garner losses.”

“Damned if you do, it’s messy,” he said.
