Jeffrey Toobin, aged 60, better known as a reporter for the New Yorker and chief legal analyst at CNN, has seen his career as a journalist put on hold in light of indecent exposure allegations.
The incident took place during an election simulation involving the New Yorker and WNYC radio last week. According to Mr.Toobin in a report by Vice, he said “I thought no-one on the Zoom call could see me. I thought I had muted the Zoom video.”
According to 2 anonymous reports from those who were part of the meeting, during a break in proceedings, Mr.Toobin was seen touching his penis on camera. It appeared that he thought that he was on another Zoom call.
Jeffrey Toobin is a well renowned legal analyst and very well respected in his field. This could not come at a worse time due to the presidential election just around the corner.
I personally do not condone the actions of Mr.Toobin. I think what he has done is stupid, reckless, and has ruined his reputation for the foreseeable future. However, with this in mind, I am not against a man carrying out a perfectly natural function. In fact, I think we would be a lot better off if we were more open to talking about topics of this nature. However, when your “animal instincts” overtake common sense and start to affect other people’s lives, one must ask one’s self; ‘What the hell were you thinking?!’
Mr.Toobin has apologized for his actions, and quite rightly so. This level of decorum is not expected from someone of his standard. The New Yorker has stated that Mr.Toobin has been suspended until the matter has been investigated. CNN has stated that “Mr.Toobin has asked for time off whilst he deals with a personal issue, and we have granted it.”
I don’t think this is the last we have heard from him, but, I think CNN and the New Yorker will be looking for a new chief legal analyst for this election, as long as our society continues to bring shame to actions of this nature.
