Ferrari makes a major redesign of their F1 car, a CNN report said.
They were “forced” to redesign due to the flaws discovered since it ran in pre-season testing in February.
Team boss, Mattia Binotto, described the current car as “off the pace”.
This led them to a “significant change of direction in terms of development”.
The result is the car will run in the pre-season specification at this weekend’s delayed season-opening race in Austria.
F1 Ferrari Sets A Goal For The Hungaroring
Binotto said the upgrade is due to make its debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix on July 17-19th.
Adding that, the team had been forced to revise their approach to the car’s aerodynamics.
This is after their investigation led them to its performance shortfall.
“We decided to come up with a new program that looked at the whole car,” he said.
“Knowing that not all of it would be ready for the first race.
“Our aim is to introduce the updates at the third race at the Hungaroring.”
Ferrari is not the only one making design revisions.
According to the report, Mercedes and Red Bull are also doing their own tweaking.
“Both their rivals (Mercedes and Red Bull) have upgrades on their cars which will make them faster,” said the report.
Mercedes have delivered a significant aerodynamic upgrade to their car.
Their lead driver Lewis Hamilton is on his way to win a record-equalling seventh world title.
Red Bull had an improved Honda engine to add to their own aerodynamic progress, said CNN.
F1 Mercedes Dons Black Colored Car
Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team recently announced that their cars will don a black livery for the 2020 season.
According to the report is meant to be a “stand against racism and all forms of discrimination.”
Besides this, team drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will also wear all-black overalls.
This is the complete opposite of their usual all-white.
