The Los Angeles Dodgers gives baseball star outfielder Mookie Betts a 12-year, $365 million extensions, a source told ESPN.  

Combined with his current one-year, $27 million contract, Betts’ total comes to 13 years and $392 million.

This deal almost topped the previous extension record of Mike Trout.

Trout’ s contract amounted to $360 million-plus a record $65 million signing bonus.

Betts in a videoconference call from Dodger Stadium said:

“I just love being here. I love everything about here.

“I’m here to win some rings and bring championships back to LA. That’s all I’m focused on.”

Bett’s Winning Background

Bett  is considered one of the best all-around players in baseball.

He is  an elite leadoff hitter with power, speed and four Gold Gloves in right field.

Bett along with his championship-winning 2018 season, he received the MVP award and followed it last year by hitting .295/.391/.524.

The Dodgers acquired Betts from the Boston Red Sox in a blockbuster trade over the winter.

They gave up outfielder Alex Verdugo and shortstop prospect Jeter Downs with a guarantee of only one year.

The Dodgers hoped that he would consider re-signing before hitting the open market.

Fauci To Throw The First Pitch

Dr. Anthony Fauci  is set to throw the ceremonial first pitch Thursday night before the reigning World Series champion

It is a match between Washington National against the New York Yankees.

This will kick off the shortened 2020 baseball season.

Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Also, he is a member of the White House coronavirus task force.

The Nationals in a statement said:

“Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the COVID-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career.

“So it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season.

“And defend our World Series championship title.”
